Principal’s Welcome Note

Mr. Muhesi Zephanus

Welcome to Kabale School of Comprehensive Nursing — where passion meets purpose, and where the future of healthcare is shaped through excellence, compassion, and innovation. As the only government-owned health training institution in the Kigezi Region, we take pride in advancing Uganda’s vision for a competent, ethical, and highly skilled health workforce.

I am Muhesi Zephanus, the 6th Principal since establishment in 1972. Transferred in September 2025 from Mulago where I was Deputy Principal. It is both a privilege and a responsibility to steward this great institution, built on a rich legacy of leadership and service. I pay tribute to my predecessors whose dedication laid the firm foundation upon which we continue to build: 1stMr. Kaliramaguru (RIP), 2ndMrs. Helen Mukakarisa Kataratambi (Executive Secretary – UHPAB), 3rdMrs. Kidega Margaret (Rtd), 4thMrs. Yedidah Biribonwa Ssentongo (Rtd), and 5thMrs. Nambiro Josephine Kigozi (Principal Mulago School of Nursing & Midwifery).
For over five decades, KSCN has remained a cornerstone in training nurses and midwives who serve communities across Uganda and beyond. Our commitment aligns closely with the national vision of strengthening health systems through competency-based training and certification, as championed by the Uganda Health Professions Assessment Board. We share a common purpose: to produce health professionals who are not only knowledgeable, but also ethical, skilled, and ready to meet the dynamic demands of modern healthcare.

In 2022, we proudly celebrated our Golden Jubilee — a milestone that symbolized resilience, growth, and enduring excellence. Yet, this celebration was more than a reflection on our past; it was a bold commitment to the future.Today, that vision is taking shape through the Golden Jubilee Gents’ Hostel Project — a transformative investment in student welfare and institutional growth. This modern, state-of-the-art two-storied facility with a 300-bed capacity is designed to address accommodation challenges while enhancing the overall learning environment.

Construction progress is both visible and promising:
  • The ground floor structure is steadily taking form
  • Slab casting has been successfully completed
  • Boarding works are actively underway
The project carries a total projected cost of UGX 4,660,068,755, with Phase I (Ground Floor) estimated at UGX 1,377,230,832. To date, UGX 479,059,238 (34.78%) has been invested — a clear demonstration of our resolve and forward momentum. We are confident that Phase I will be completed by January 2027, bringing us closer to a more inclusive, comfortable, and conducive academic environment. Why Choose KSCN? Because here, you are not merely enrolling in a school — you are becoming part of a purpose-driven community aligned with national and global health priorities. Our training is defined by:
  • Academic excellence rooted in focused Tutors and competency-based education
  • Strong alignment with national assessment and certification standards
  • A nurturing environment that builds professional integrity and ethical practice
  • Continuous infrastructure and institutional development

Rising to the Global Stage As a testament to our growing excellence, KSCN is proud to step onto the international stage. In September 2026, we will represent Uganda at the World Skills Shanghai 2026. Our very own student, Nakaayi Flavia (21 years), emerged as Uganda’s national champion in Jinja (2025), and will carry forward our flag, our values, and our commitment to excellence.  Your Journey Starts Here If you are driven by a calling to care, to heal, and to lead, then Kabale School of Comprehensive Nursing is your home. Here, your ambitions are nurtured, your skills are refined, and your potential is transformed into impact.
